Engine Flames

A rocket engine's exhaust as burning gas, made in the air of Volumetric Explosions: white-hot at the nozzle, cooling out through yellow and orange, wider as the air thins, striking the ground and running out along it; and the white-hot air round a craft coming into an atmosphere fast.

A rocket engine's flame as burning gas: white-hot at the nozzle, cooling through yellow into ragged orange tongues, drawn as a true volume.

  • What burns shows: kerosene blinding, hydrogen a pale veil with shock diamonds, a nuclear engine a faint red.
  • The air shapes it: a narrow column at the pad, wider as the air thins, a clear lobe in a vacuum.
  • It moves as fire does: it wavers, trails when the ship turns and spreads over the pad.
  • Re-entry fire: white-hot air off the heat shield, streaming back into a glowing wake.

For KSP 1.12.x. Needs Keystone and Volumetric Explosions 0.6.4 or later.

Works on: Mac: tried. Windows 11: tried before the re-entry fire. Linux: not run.
