Information Changelog Stats

This mod reimplements the old parts. For all your Nostalgic needs! The mod used to use multiple configs, but now it simply combines all the parts into one folder and restores the old versions of every removed or modified part. Currently parts from 0.13.3 are restored, and everything nerfed/changed in 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7 has a classic version too! Version 0.7.3 and below of the mod have two configs, one reimplements the old parts from 0.13.3, with some minor balance changes, and the other reimplements the 1.3.1 parts which were replaced, modified, nerfed or removed in 1.4. To install, just choose which config you want, and extract that config's .zip file into your GameData directory.

Version 0.9.0, "The Great Reorganization", has just come out, and has improved the way the parts are stored, named, and sorted, and everything has Tech Tree integration now. Many parts have even been moved into a different category too, matching their modern equivilants better. Unfortunately, some parts (the plane cockpits) have temporarily been removed, until I can post the massive 0.10 update, which is going to include every Classic part between 0.17 and 1.1, along with a bugfix patch, which will take a couple of days. If you really need these parts, stick to 0.8.2 as it is still fully functional in 1.7, although it won't include Classic editions of the 1.7 parts. 0.9.1 has come out now, and fixes some bugs, but the massive 0.10 update isn't out yet.

When this next update is done, my mod is going to fully supersede Kerbal Historical Institute, as I'll be able to reimplement every part from that long-abandoned mod. Although I have acquired a version of 0.17, after nearly 5 years, which is what is going to allow me to add so many parts next update, I still need to acquire 0.16, 0.15, and 0.14 to complete my classic KSP version collection. If anyone has these versions, or knows where I can get them, please message me either on the forums, @TriggeredSnake, or on reddit at /u/TriggeredSnake, as you will be a great help to both OldPartsRedux and my personal collection. Anyone who finds me an old version will get their name in included into OldPartsRedux somewhere to credit them. (if they want.)

Known Bugs

  • There's an issue with the Classic RCS thrusters, they fire way too much exhaust and in the opposite direction. This issue has persisted since some very early versions of OldPartsRedux, and I'm still not entirely sure how to fix it, but I think I can manage it now.

  • Not every part is in the correct tech-tree location or editor category yet.

Most of these bugs will be fixed in a patch tomorrow. The reason for the abnormal amount is the complete recode, much like when KSP was rewritten and ported to Unity 5, a rewrite brings loads of new bugs.

Version 0.11.2 for Kerbal Space Program 1.12.3

A small update, fixes some bugs and removes some broken parts that were somewhat unnecessary and aren't easily fixable right now.

Features:

  • A few parts were removed this update as they were just completely broken and I'm not sure how to fix it yet, nothing of real value was lost though, the old engine nacelles didn't do anything anyway and the SAS modules were barely different to the ones from today.

Bugfixes:

  • I can't remember the exact specifics but since the last update while I've been playing I've been fixing bugs as I encounter them, so a few parts should be fixed now.

Known Bugs:

  • Some parts might still have broken attach nodes but it should be better than it was before.

Future Plans:

  • I'm considering splitting the mod into a few separate mods, each focusing on specific parts. I feel like this mod has almost become too large and varied, my original plan was just to add the old rocket parts from 0.7.3 through to 0.25, but as the developers continued nerfing and changing parts I used this mod as a place to add older versions for them. I expect if I do go through with this I'll split OldPartsRedux up, keeping OldPartsRedux as just the rocket parts like I originally planned, and creating a pack containing the old plane parts split into categories, as well as a mod for reimplementing the pre-redesign parts since 1.0. I might also try making a separate mod to un-nerf the RCS tanks and Xenon gas, right now those parts are in OldPartsRedux too but they're visually the same as the newer ones.

  • Categories: Right now OldPartsRedux's parts are just added into the base game's part lists and it makes them feel quite bloated, so I'm considering adding further categories containing the parts split into versions, e.g. Selecting 0.13.3 would give the parts from that version. Alternatively, I might make separate categories based off the rough era,, e.g. Retro: 0.7.3-0.15, Nostalgic: 0.16-0.21.

Version 0.11.1 for Kerbal Space Program 1.12.3

Version 0.11.1 is here with a few new parts, and a bunch of bugfixes. There are a few bugs still that I'm aware of, but I felt a new version was needed and I'm on the way to fixing some of the issues.

Features:

  • Added classic versions of the LVT-45 and LVT-30, files taken from 1.11.2.
  • Added classic versions of all the docking ports changed in 1.12.
  • Classic RT-5 Flea and RT-10 BACC are now usable.
  • Added tech tree implementation to a few parts that were lacking it.
  • Some parts have been moved to different categories again, I originally was placing parts in their original category, but now I'm placing them where their modern equivalents are placed.
  • Added the files for some 0.16 and 0.17 parts, but they aren't appearing in game due to issues with the part files.
  • The mod is now listed as compatible with 1.12, but as usual this mod should be compatible with all versions since like 1.2, maybe earlier.

Bugfixes:

  • A few parts weren't showing up in game, they were trying to access model files from the wrong place, most of these are fixed now.
  • Aerodynamic nose cone B was using the model for cone A, but this issue was hidden by the fact that the cones were both not visible in game. Both problems are fixed now.
  • RT-10 BACC SRB is fixed now, I tried to add a classic version before but unintentionally discovered a bit of unused content, my BACC Classic was using a different texture somewhere between the new and old designs. I added a proper BACC Classic using files from 1.4 which avoided the issue, and I kept the unused one as the BACC (Unknown).
  • Some files were in the wrong folders, that should be sorted now.

Known Bugs:

  • SAS Module (0.20) is the wrong size and has broken attach nodes, I'm not sure the exact issue but I'll get it fixed next update. It's probably a similar issue to the bug the plane cockpits had many updates ago where they attach nodes were backwards.
  • The classic Vernor engine has a weird model that I don't think is correct, but it's definitely using the model in the folder so I'm not sure what the issue is.
  • Some parts might still lack tech tree integration, at some point I will go through every file to make sure this is fixed as I think lacking this prevents them from appearing outside of Sandbox.
  • Most part files just use the model file in the folder, but some of them are programmed to target model files in specific folders. I rewrote most of these when I added them to OldPartsRedux but since I changed my file layout, and Squad have moved some models in the vanilla game, a few parts can't find the right model and won't appear. I need to search through every folder to make sure they are all correct, and that should happen in the next update.

Future Plans:

  • I've managed to find every old version of KSP now, so I can start to add parts from 0.14, 15, 16, and 17, unfortunately my attempts so far don't seem to load. I expect this is due to the part file format, and I can probably resolve it by rewriting the file to use something closer to the modern format, I've had to do that before.
  • As OldPartsRedux is getting quite large, I might try to reduce filesizes somehow.
  • The mod also has a huge amount of parts that can take up a lot of the parts list, so I might try to use the "new" variant system for some of the parts that didn't have stat or text changes.
  • I want to add the classic plane parts from pre-1.0.5, and from pre-0.90, and pre-0.25, and the parts from around 0.15. This will take a while as there are a huge amount of parts and I might need to find a copy of 0.25 again after mine got lost in a hard drive issue.

Version 0.11.0 for Kerbal Space Program 1.11.2

I want to explain some things with this update, such as the reason why I haven't worked on this mod in over a year, and why the changelog for the last update is incorrect. I was working on a huge update which would add all of the parts from old versions, however during the end of it's development my hard drive developed an issue that corrupted many of my old versions, putting a stop to the mod until I could fix it and recover most of them, but before I resumed working on the mod I got a new PC which has had major technical issues causing KSP to crash every 2 minutes until a while ago when I managed to fix them. This prevented me from continuing the mod. Unfortunately, after I fixed the computer my hard drive containing all the old versions went missing until I found it yesterday, so I was further delayed. Confusingly, the last update to OldPartsRedux claimed to add all the parts from 0.15 onwards, but this is incorrect, that was the original plan for that update but I published it early as I knew I wouldn't be able to continue it for a long time, with it roughly half finished. I thought I'd written a different changelog, but somehow the wrong one still got used, so just to clear up the confusion,

At this point, OldPartsRedux contains classic versions of all rocket parts changed since 0.20, and classic versions of some parts earlier than that but not all of them. OldPartsRedux also includes a few Spaceplane parts, but not most of them.

  • I have managed to find KSP 0.7.3 - 0.13.3, and 0.16 - 0.22, plus I know how to get all the versions after 0.22. I still really need to find 0.14 and 0.15.
  • With the versions I have access too I should be able to implement classic versions of almost every part, and I can start working on it again.
  • I doubt they will all come out as one big update, however I will keep working on OldPartsRedux.
  • Sorry for the delay and the confusion, I hope this update helps with that.
  • This update contains classic versions of all the parts changed after 1.7, and fixes a few bugs with parts using the wrong models and makes the 0.22 science parts work as intended.
  • AVC & CKAN Support is also added with this update, thanks to a very helpful fix given to me by HebaruSan to resolve an issue pointed out by LinuxGuruGamer years ago.

Version 0.10.0 for Kerbal Space Program 1.11.2

Version 0.10.0, The Great Success brings forth an extreme amount of new parts! Classic versions exist of every part that has ever been changed in Kerbal Space Program's history between 0.16 and 1.8.1! Spaceplane parts are unfortunately the exception, and most parts lack classic versions, simply because there is almost no documentation on which parts changed and when. When I can find the documentation, I will add classic versions. With this update, Old Parts Redux achieves the majority of it's original goal to allow you to use classic parts in modern KSP!

Features:

  • Any part that has been changed since 0.15 now has a classic version, letting you play with those parts before they were nerfed/buffed/retextured/removed,
  • Internal file organization has been redone since version 0.9.0, sorting files by version rather than category.
  • Internal part names have been redone somewhat, making it easier to determine the version they are from, although some silliness still exists, e.g. ToroidalAerospikeClassicClassicClassicClassicClassicClassic.
  • Some part names are more accurate now.

Bugfixes:

  • A few issues with parts magically transforming into other parts between loading screens have been fixed.
  • LVT-45 (0.13.3) has a slightly less glitchy model.
  • Certain parts don't glitch out in the editor anymore.
  • A few misfiled parts have been moved to the correct places.

Version 0.9.1 for Kerbal Space Program 1.7.2

0.9.1 is fully compatible with 1.7.2, but I'm posting this as a 1.7.1 mod because that's the version I'm stuck with until Kopernicus updates.

Bugfixes:

  • The RT-5 (1.4) now loads the correct texture and loads properly.

  • The RT-10 (0.13.3) is now correctly named the RT-10 (0.7.3) and no longer conflicts. I will be adding a 0.13.3 version when I can update the 0.13.3 model to be modern KSP compatible.

  • The LV-T45 (0.13.3) has been properly named in its file, and now loads correctly without conflict.

  • The LV-T30 (0.13.3) is now named correctly.

  • Some parts have had their categories and tech tree positions fixed.

Features:

  • Every part file has been recreated using files from their original versions.
  • Every part has been renamed to state the version the part was taken from, e.g. (0.13.3), or (1.4), rather than using the 'Classic' and 'Classic Classic' suffixes.
  • Every part now has Tech Tree integration.
  • Some parts have been moved to different categories.
  • Rewritten readme file.
  • AVC compatibility should be possible due to a .version file modification, but as I don't use it I'm not entirely sure.
  • CKAN compatibility should be possible now, but I don't use it so I'm not entirely sure.

Parts:

  • Every part changed or modified in 1.7 now has a Classic version.
  • Unfortunately, a few parts have been temporarily removed, specifically the Classic spaceplane parts, as I need to find a backup hard drive to check which versions they are from. They will be reimplemented soon in a new update, which will be coming out in a couple of days, and will be incorporating every part between 0.17 and 1.1, plus a few other parts.

  • For some reason, when I started making this mod I avoided tech-tree integration, but since then I've changed that.

  • The LV-T45 Classic, the LV-T30 Classic, The FL-T500 Classic, and the RT-10 SRB Classic have all been integrated into the tech tree.

Version 0.8.0 for Kerbal Space Program 1.6.0

The latest version of OldPartsRedux includes:

  • Changed the ZIP-within-a-ZIP Config system, instead combining all the content into one mod.
  • Added the pre-0.25 1.25m Cockpits.
  • Added the post-0.25 but pre-1.0 1.25m Cockpits.
  • Added classic versions of every part that got changed in 1.5.
  • Updated mod to work with 1.5.X without errors.
  • Changed some names and stuff to solve conflicts and be more organized.
  • Rewrote the Readme file.

Next update should include all the pre-1.0 plane parts, and all the pre-0.25 plane parts. Additionally, after I find a version of 0.14, 0.15, and 0.17, I'll be adding parts from those versions.

Initial release, if I remember rightly.

Just added the 0.13.3 parts, and did a pretty bad job of it. There were quite a few bugs, most of which I fixed in 6.4 but didn’t mention. I even got the .version file url wrong as the mod was originally created using CrowdSourcedScience’s .version file as I happened to have a copy of that on my desktop and needed something to copy the syntax from.
