Engine Flames 0.5.0
for Kerbal Space Program 1.12.x

A rocket engine's exhaust as burning gas: it leaves the nozzle, is slowed and stirred by the
air, widens, cools from white through yellow to orange, strikes the ground and runs out over
it. Worked out bit by bit and drawn as a true volume, as the Volumetric Explosions mod makes
its fire, in whose air it burns.

INSTALL
This mod needs two others, each a separate download:
Keystone 0.9 or later, the base it stands on: https://spacedock.info/mod/4665/Keystone
Volumetric Explosions 0.8 or later, which makes and draws the fire: https://spacedock.info/mod/4669/Volumetric%20Explosions
Copy their folders (Keystone and VolumetricExplosions) into your KSP's GameData folder,
and the EngineFlames folder from this download beside them, and start the game. Without both
the game does not load this mod. One copy of each serves every mod that uses it. To remove
this mod, delete the EngineFlames folder.

USE
Nothing to do: every rocket engine has its new flame. Its settings (brightness, length,
width, and switching it off) are in the Keystone window: the keystone button on the game's
toolbar, or Option-K on a Mac and Alt-K elsewhere. Then turn to Engine Flames.

BESIDE OTHER MODS
It works with the Waterfall mod or without it. While one of its flames burns for an engine,
the flame the game or Waterfall draws for that engine is hidden; the smoke is left (the
Rocket Smoke mod does for smoke what this does for flames). Jets, ion engines and engines
that burn something it does not know keep the flames they had.

USE VOLUMETRIC EXPLOSIONS 0.8 OR LATER
This version's flames (their starts and stops, the afterburner, the glowing bells, the
storable fuels' clear flame) are drawn by what that version knows.

NO RE-ENTRY FIRE IN 0.5.0
The re-entry fire of 0.4.0 is taken out while it is made again; until it is back, the
game's own re-entry streaks show as the game has them.

WHERE IT WORKS
Made and tried on a Mac, and tried on Windows 11 (all but 0.5.0's starts and stops, which
have run on the Mac only so far). The flames are drawn by Volumetric
Explosions' shaders, packed for the game's OpenGL (a Mac, Linux) and built for Direct3D
(Windows); nobody has run it on Linux yet. Where that mod cannot draw a volume, this one
says so in its settings and leaves the game's flames as they are.
